Some might suggest that trekking for 60km, while carrying a 35kg backpack, in less than 48 hours is a young man’s game.

Major David “Harry” Hood, 55, has shattered that presumption and is believed to be the oldest person ever to complete Nato’s toughest patrolling challenge.

The army reservist from Dunfermline earned a bronze medal in the gruelling Exercise Cambrian Patrol, which he previously completed in his twenties. It is set against the backdrop of the Brecon Beacons in Wales and has been running for 65 years.
