UVEye’s AI-powered automated vehicle inspection technology is a good idea.
How good? Good enough for TIME magazine to select it as one of The Best Inventions of 2024, its annual list of “200 innovations changing how we live.”
UVEye likens its drive-thru inspection system to an “MRI for vehicles,” using deep learning and a database of vehicular components and flaws it calls the world’s largest to conduct examinations that last seconds and deliver detailed assessments.
The company said the recognition by TIME highlights the way the system is “driving the future of automotive inspection while enhancing safety, reliability, transparency and efficiency across the industry.”
TIME’s listing notes the UVEye’s platform is being used by fleet operators, rental car companies and some 300 U.S. dealers to scan half a million cars per month. The company was founded in 2016 by brothers Amir and Ohad Hever.
Amir Hever, now the CEO, said he is “supremely honored” by his company’s inclusion on the magazine’s list.
“Our mission is to bolster innovation in vehicular safety and smart transportation,” he said. “Being named to this list is a testament to the ingenuity and drive of our amazing team and world-class partners.”
In March, UVEye was selected as one of Fast Company magazine’s World’s Most Innovative Companies of 2024.
TIME said it compiles its list from nominations submitted by its editors and correspondents around the world through an online application process, paying special attention to growing fields such as health care, artificial intelligence and green energy. Each nominee is evaluated on various factors, including originality, efficacy, ambition and impact.
Other automotive innovations on the list include Volvo’s Driver Understanding System, the Volkswagen ID. Buzz electric minivan, the Hero MotoCorp Surge S32 convertible two-wheel/three-wheel vehicle, the Pebble Flow RV trailer and Cavnue’s Connected and Automated Vehicle Corridor.
