Investing.com – Japan stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the , and sectors led shares higher.

At the close in Tokyo, the gained 1.16%.

The best performers of the session on the were Tokyo Gas Co., Ltd. (TYO:), which rose 8.71% or 283.00 points to trade at 3,532.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Fujikura Ltd. (TYO:) added 6.40% or 338.00 points to end at 5,617.00 and Kansai Electric Power Co Inc (TYO:) was up 4.72% or 117.50 points to 2,607.00 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Sumitomo Dainippon Pharma Co Ltd (TYO:), which fell 13.39% or 83.00 points to trade at 537.00 at the close. Hino Motors, Ltd. (TYO:) declined 13.34% or 62.50 points to end at 406.10 and Chugai Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. (TYO:) was down 4.90% or 378.00 points to 7,340.00.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 1844 to 1778 and 231 ended unchanged.

Shares in Fujikura Ltd. (TYO:) rose to all time highs; gaining 6.40% or 338.00 to 5,617.00.

The , which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 19.54% to 25.86.

Crude oil for December delivery was up 0.92% or 0.62 to $67.83 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in January rose 0.82% or 0.58 to hit $71.31 a barrel, while the December Gold Futures contract rose 0.62% or 17.20 to trade at $2,798.30 a troy ounce.

USD/JPY was down 0.03% to 153.31, while EUR/JPY rose 0.01% to 165.93.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.07% at 104.11.
