Albanian Greek politician Fredi Beleri was showered with eggs and yoghurt by an Albanian citizen in the country’s capital city of Tirana.
Beleri, an ethnically Greek politician from Albania, had eggs and yoghurt hurled at him by a citizen while walking outside the Albanian Parliament in Tirana on Tuesday evening with the incident captured on video.
The politician has been the centre of controversy in the country, having been elected mayor of Himarë in 2023, though not serving in the role due to being arrested a few days earlier for vote buying.
He became the centre of attention again earlier this year when he was elected as a member of the European Parliament for New Democracy (Νέα Δημοκρατία) in the 2024 European Parliament election in Greece.
Beleri served two-thirds of his sentence before being released from prison on September 3 this year.
