HAMBURG, Germany, June 22 (Reuters) – Following is reaction after the Czech Republic and Georgia drew 1-1 in Euro 2024 Group F on Saturday:
Czech goal-scorer Patrik Schick: “Of course, 1-1 is not enough for us. We were better, we had more chances.
“In the end we were able to equalise. We were going at them but we were not able to score a second goal and in the end we made a stupid mistake and could have lost. We have a point. We have to play for everything (in our last match).”
“We had enough balls, centres. We were dangerous, we did not play badly going forward.”
Czech defender Robin Hranac whose handball led to Georgia’s goal:
“We reacted well (to the penalty). We had another chance. Of course, ending the first half 1-1 would have been better.”
“I know I was involved in (conceding) three goals (at the tournament) but this is how it goes.
“We knew from before the start we will pounce at them, that they will play on the breaks. The pressure was big.”
Georgia goalkeeper and player-of-the-match Giorgi Mamardashvili: “I am quite satisfied and happy because we are here. Of course, we could have won in the last moment. I am disappointed about that but that is football.”
On late miss by Georgia’s Saba Lobjanidze: “He was the one who wanted to score most of all, but it didn’t work out well. He needs to continue training and playing, he’s a great football player and he will definitely score a goal in the coming matches.
“Of course, it was a very important moment, but he needs to keep going … he should be proud because we earned our first point against the Czech Republic.”
“From above everything seems easier, but it is very difficult to perform in those situations because you have less time than it seems from the stands, so whatever he did, he did it right, but he didn’t score.”
