Russian media say North Korean Foreign Minister Choe Son Hui is set to arrive in Moscow on Wednesday. She will likely discuss a possible visit by her country’s leader, Kim Jong Un, to Russia this year.
The media on Tuesday quoted a diplomatic source as saying Choe will arrive in Moscow on Wednesday for talks, via Vladivostok in Russia’s Far East.
North Korea’s ruling Workers’ Party newspaper, Rodong Sinmun, said Choe left an airport in the North Korean capital on Monday.
The Russian media reports said the source did not disclose who will meet the North Korean minister.
Russian officials told NHK that the two sides are expected to make arrangements to realize Kim’s visit to Russia this year.
The officials also said dispatching of North Korean soldiers to Russia will likely be on the agenda.
They said another expected topic is how to further develop cooperative ties between the two countries, following the signing of a comprehensive strategic partnership treaty. The pact includes a pledge for mutual military support in a contingency.
Choe said at an international conference in Russia last month that she is confident about Russia’s victory in its invasion of Ukraine.
