Walnut, CA – June 12 – The USA Men’s National Team opened play in a two-game series against Montenegro with a 16-11 win Wednesday night. Hannes Daube scored four goals for the Americans while Alex Obert and Ryder Dodd each added three. Drew Holland recorded six saves in the cage. Team USA and Montenegro return to play on Friday night at UC San Diego at 9:00pm et/6:00pm pt. Live streaming is available via Overnght with live stats from 6-8 Sports.
It was a close contest throughout between Team USA and Montenegro. The visitors got on the board first with a pair of goals to open the game but Team USA quickly answered as Max Irving and Ryder Dodd converted man advantages for 2-2. From there, the United States tacked on three more at the end of the opening frame courtesy of Chase Dodd, Johnny Hooper, and Dylan Woodhead to lead 5-2. Obert got things started in the second period by earning a penalty and knocking down the five meter attempt. One minute later, Obert scored again for the Americans and Montenegro put away three goals in the frame to make the halftime score 7-5 in favor of the home team.
Daube did his heaving lifting in the second half, starting with two goals in the first two minutes of the third. Hooper put Team USA up four with a counterattack goal before a pair of Montenegrin goals. Obert converted his second penalty attempt of the night and Daube followed with a man-up score to give the United States a 12-8 cushion heading into the final frame. Montenegro scored thrice in the fourth as goals from Ryder Dodd (2), Chase Dodd, and Daube sealed the win for Team USA, 16-11.
The United States went 7/13 on power plays and 2/4 on penalties while Montenegro went 4/11 on power plays with no penalties attempted.
