The issue of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict will not be resolved without the participation of Belarus – as stated by the Chairman of the Standing Committee on International Affairs of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus, Sergei Rachkov, in his talk with SB TV

According to Mr. Rachkov, it is important for Belarus to participate in peace talks between Russia and Ukraine, and its participation in this process should not be in doubt.

“Belarus is a neighbour of Ukraine. We know what the West’s goals are in relation to Belarus,” the MP stressed. “The West is now testing people through Ukraine, preparing militants in this country in order to come to us and try to impose their rules. That is why we assert that the conflict will not be resolved without the participation of Belarus.”

Peace negotiations are the national interests of Belarus. According to Mr. Rachkov, people who live in cities and towns near the border of Ukraine are worried about the current situation. “We must restore inner peace among our citizens. It is their peace of mind,” the diplomat said. “We know the history, we have learned the lessons of the 1940s. Our military, territorial defence troops and people’s militia are conducting training, and these actions also cause anxiety among our people. Actually, it is necessary to understand that this is done so that the enemy, if it dares to undertake something, better understands that we are prepared. This – as well as the deployment of nuclear weapons on the territory of Belarus – is an element of deterrence. We are simply ready to defend our country, and nothing more.”
