KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – Early voting is in full swing on both sides of the state line. Election officials are reassuring voters each ballot will be counted correctly.
On October 28, volunteers tested voting and tabulation machines to ensure each ballot is registered properly.
Every ballot is placed into the machine, validated, checked, and counted. Election officials then make sure the number matches up with a hand count. Once the machine is checked off, it is ready to be shipped to its polling location.
“We’ve been testing machines all week to make sure they all work properly,” Kansas City Board of Elections director, Shawn Keiffer said. “We’ve brought in a sampling of those machines to show they are working properly. We want to build public confidence that their vote is counted accurately and that we have done our job.”
Every machine is rechecked once the election is complete. Each polling location receives at least one machine.
Voter turnout in Kansas City is following a trend seen across the metro. Keiffer said the city is on pace to set early voting records and is averaging roughly 4,500 votes a day.
