STATESBORO– Georgia Southern men’s basketball will take a foreign tour to the Dominican Republic, where it will spend five days training and playing games against local teams from July 22-27.
The Eagles will play a pair of games and practice the whole week at Polideportivo Eleoncio Mercedes (Eleoncio Mercedes Sports Center) in La Romana, home of the Cañeros del Este of the National Professional Basketball League.
GS will be stationed at the Casa de Campo resort for the trip and will play games on Wednesday and Friday in La Romana.
Following the two games, the team will take a boat cruise to Saona Island and spend Saturday there before returning to Statesboro on Sunday.
Following Charlie Henry‘s first season as head coach and a berth in the Sun Belt Tournament Quarterfinals, the Eagles will have seven returners to the roster, with Eren Banks being the leading returning scorer and Eugene Brown III anchoring the team’s veteran presence and defense.
The Eagles bolstered the roster with several transfers including Bradley Douglas and Tyson Brown. The team added three freshmen to the incoming class; Micah Smith, Braylhan Thomas and Langston Boyd, who will get their first action as Eagles in the Dominican Republic.
This will be the first foreign tour for the basketball team since it took a trip to Madrid and Barcelona in the summer of 2019.
