SHREVEPORT, La. (KSLA) — Just days before Halloween, events were held throughout the ArkLaTex this weekend to celebrate the spooky season, including events at local churches to create a fun and safe environment for everyone.
Gateway Church in Shreveport hosted interactive trunk-or-treating. Each trunk was set up as a different game to win candy.
This is a fun alternative to traditional door-to-door trick-or-treating.
Besides candy, there were games and people dressed up in costumes.
“Well, we’re gonna do it again next year; and the date, we’re not sure,” pastor Scott Holmes said. “It usually falls on the weekend before Halloween; and we just wanna give everybody an opportunity. Stay safe, come out and enjoy a great time. And we just wanna show that church life and we wanna be involved in life and giving life.”
There also were fall vibes at Cross Pointe Church in Shreveport, where dozens of families enjoyed the annual fall festival.
The church said they are committed to help create a safe space for everyone to celebrate the holidays. This year’s event featured trunk-or-treating, bounce houses and face painting.
“Every year, we pretty much do the same thing; but, obviously, big jump houses that we rent out here and we we also have several giveaways,” pastor Austin Cragun said. “We do a $100 gift card giveaway; so you fill out a card and we do a drawing and you get a chance to win a $100 gift card.
“We also have a costume contest; first, second and third place,” he continued. “So we had three great contestants this year. And so there’s a few of the fun things. We have face painting. We give away free food. It’s a totally free event and, obviously, plenty of candy.”
There was a cash prize for the costume contest.
Organizers said they already are looking forward to celebrating Fall Fest again next year.
