Trump vows to fire Special Counsel Jack Smith 'within 2 seconds' if re-elected Former US President Donald Trump has declared that he would fire “within two seconds” Justice Department Special Counsel Jack Smith if he retakes the presidency by winning the November election.

Smith has been leading the investigation into the attack on the US Capitol in January 2021. Trump is facing criminal charges over the case, including conspiracy to defraud the US.

Trump criticized Smith as “a very dishonest man” and “a mean man” during a conservative radio show on Thursday.

He promised to immediately fire the special counsel when asked whether he would fire Smith or pardon himself if he returns to power.

Vice President and Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris’ campaign team issued a statement as a response. It said, “Donald Trump thinks he’s above the law.” It added that a second Trump term “is guaranteed to be more dangerous.”
