A half brother to Justin Milano, winner of the April 14 Satsuki Sho (G1) at Nakayama, was the sales topper at the Oct. 22 Northern Farm Mixed Sale at Northern Horse Park. He was bought by Susumu Fujita for ¥290 million (approximately US$1.91 million).
The weanling colt, who was born Feb. 21 and offered as Hip 21 at the sale, is by Kitasan Black . The sire was named Japanese Horse of the Year in 2016-17 and sired 2023 Longines World’s Best Racehorse Equinox . The weanling is out of Margot Did , winner of the Nunthorpe Stakes (G1).
The Kitasan Black colt was one of 10 weanlings who were bought for more than ¥100 million. All of 52 weanlings offered found their new owners and the gross sale was ¥3.555 billion, a 133.7% increase from 2024. The average price was ¥68,365,385 (US$450,543) and the median price was ¥42 million (US$276,789), which were 96.8% and 55.6% increases as compared with twelve months ago, respectively.
Repole Stable bought four fillies and mares including Hammaguir, a 4-year-filly by Lord Kanaloa who won two races at Iwate and was offered as a filly out of training. Repole paid ¥31 million (US$204,297), the second highest price at the fillies and mares session, to buy the half sister to NHK Mile Cup (G1) winner Aerolithe .
A total of 64 fillies and mares were bought for ¥677.5 million in total, a 7.2% decline from 2023.
