Addis Ababa, October 26, 2024 (FBC) – In his message at the launch of Ethiopia’s Climate Week ahead of COP29, Ambassador Designate of Denmark to Ethiopia, Sune Krogstrup, Climate finance is expected to take the centeral stage at the upcoming UN Climate Change Conference (COP29).
The new climate financing goal needs to deliver the billions needed to fill the current climate financing gap, he noted, stressing the need to identifying joint solutions for the common challenges the entire world is facing.
At COP 29, Denmark will seek to bridge different positions and work towards a goal that balances ambition and realism, the Ambassador Designate underscored.
COP29 must pave the way for the implementation and financing of national adaptation plans, adding “This is especially important in a country like Ethiopia, which is vulnerable to the effects of climate change.”
Denmark, the country dedicating 60 percent of climate aid to adaptation in vulnerable developing countries, is deeply engaged in facilitating access to finance for adaptation through the global climate funds, he remarked.
“As we work towards ambitious climate goals, Denmark recognizes the critical role of partnerships with countries like Ethiopia. With ambitious climate goals and flagship programmes, Ethiopia is a green front runner and can serve as an inspiration for others,” he pointed out.
He also underscored the importance of showcasing Ethiopia’s achievements in tackling climate change to the rest of the world, explaining: “this is why Denmark is financing Ethiopia’s pavilion at COP29.”
The Ambassador Designate reaffirmed Denmark’s commitment to work with Ethiopia at COP29 to push for ambitious global climate goals and policies.
