South Korea says it will send a delegation to Belgium early next week to share with NATO and the European Union the information it has on North Korea’s dispatch of troops to Russia.
The National Intelligence Service made the announcement on Friday. It said the delegation will be comprised of senior officials from the NIS as well as the Defense and Foreign ministries.
It said the latest step is in line with an agreement made between South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte when they talked by phone on Monday.
Rutte later wrote in a post on X that “North Korea sending troops to fight alongside Russia in Ukraine would mark a significant escalation.”
The South Korean delegation is expected to brief NATO executives and hold meetings with high-ranking officials of NATO and the EU.
South Korea has not supplied lethal weapons to Ukraine. But on Thursday, Yoon said the country will review the policy depending on North Korea’s moves.
