FORT LEONARD WOOD, Mo. (KRCG) — Fort Leonard Wood officials said that a person of interest has been taken into custody in connection to the death of a sergeant.

Military officials posted on their website that someone was in custody, but they did not release the name of the person.

Authorities announced on Thursday that the death of Sgt. Sarah Roque was being investigated as a homicide.

U.S. Army Major Gen. Christopher Beck said Roque’s body was found in a dumpster on the base near the living quarters for single soldiers.

The commanding general said in a statement that Roque’s death “has caused a tremendous void” at the Army base.

A be on the lookout alert was issued after the 23-year-old was reported missing on Tuesday.

No other information about about the person in custody or a potential motive was released Friday.
