Armenia and Azerbaijan reach agreement on all fundamental issues to achieve peace – Pashinyan
AKIPRESS.COM – Armenia and Azerbaijan have reached agreement on all fundamental issues to achieve peace, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said at the outreach/BRICS+ format meeting at the summit in Kazan, RBK reported.
The peace treaty has been agreed upon by 80-90%, the wording of mutual recognition of territorial integrity, mutual absence of territorial claims and the obligation not to put forward such demands in the future, as well as the establishment of diplomatic relations are ready, he said.
“Our assessment is as follows – already today, in the agreed content, the draft treaty formulates, addresses and resolves all the fundamental issues necessary to establish a solid basis for peace and normalization of relations between the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Azerbaijan, and we propose that Azerbaijan sign this treaty,” Nikol Pashinyan said.
Armenian PM Pashinyan also proposed that the Azerbaijani authorities ensure transport links with their exclave, the city of Nakhchivan, through a simplified procedure for border and customs control.
“The east-west direction can also be used for transport and communication links between Azerbaijan and the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic. We have offered Azerbaijan mechanisms for simplified border and customs control procedures, as well as additional security measures taking into account the jurisdiction and full respect for sovereignty of both countries,” Pashinyan said at a meeting within the framework of the BRICS summit. According to the Armenian Prime Minister, ensuring communication with Nakhchivan is Yerevan’s wish and obligation. At the same time, he rejected claims that the Armenian authorities agreed to the participation of a third country in ensuring security on its sovereign territory.
