Defender Stefan de Vrij admits that Inter Milan “needed more balance” in yesterday evening’s Champions League win over Young Boys.

The Dutchman spoke to RSI after the 1-0 victory, via FCInterNews.

Inter got the three points they were after in the end.

The Nerazzurri beat Young Boys 1-0 to make it two wins in a row in the Champions League and continue their unbeaten run in Europe.

But it was anything but a straightforward match for the Nerazzurri.

Inter may have been facing a team who had lost their opening two matches in the competition against Aston Villa and Barcelona, on top of domestic struggles.

But Young Boys imposed themselves on the match and put Inter’s goal under plenty of pressure.

A lot of this had to do with Inter never quite being able to put their foot on the ball and dictate the tempo of play.

It was a Nerazzurri lineup with a lot of rotation to the team. And perhaps that was evident from how the team played in possession.

“We scored right at the end,” de Vrij said after the match. “It was good from us believing in it, even though we had to suffer a lot.”

“Particularly in the first half,” he noted.

“They deserve a lot of credit,” de Vrij said of Young Boys. “They did well.”

“We were bad at pressing and taking care of the ball at times.”

“We were a little better in the second half,” de Vrij noted. “But we need more balance.”

“Today we lost the ball too many times, and allowed too many counterattacks.”

And de Vrij also denied that Inter may have been “distracted” by their massive upcoming Serie A clash with Juventus. “We were focused on this match,” the Dutchman said.

“Now we’ll start thinking about the next one.”
