Iran warns Israel of 'painful response' at BRICS summit Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has warned Israel that his country would respond harshly if Israel makes a mistake.

Pezeshkian made the remark on Wednesday while attending a BRICS summit in the central Russian city of Kazan.

Referring to the situation in Gaza and Lebanon, where Israel is intensifying its offensive, Pezeshkian said people are witnessing war and violence is deepening.

He added that the continuation of the situation “will undoubtedly put the world at risk of spreading war and insecurity.”

Pezeshkian had meetings with participating leaders, including Chinese President Xi Jinping and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on the sidelines of the summit.

During his meeting with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, Pezeshkian warned Israel over its readiness to launch countermeasures in retaliation for Iran’s October 1 missile attacks.

He vowed a “painful response” if Israel commits a mistake.

The joint declaration adopted at the summit includes words denouncing the Israeli attacks in the Middle East and condemning “the loss of civilian lives and the immense damage to civilian infrastructure resulting from attacks by Israel in residential areas in Lebanon.”

Iran has called on nations that maintain a distance from the West to support its position at a time when Tehran is increasingly at odds with the United States and others that continue to provide military support for Israel.
