Drone Summit in Hokkaido showcases latest technology The latest technologies and applications are in the spotlight at the Drone Summit, which began on Tuesday in the northern Japanese city of Sapporo.

Around 70 companies across the country are taking part in the event, jointly organized by the central government and the Hokkaido prefectural government.

In the disaster-response section, a live demonstration was held of a drone capturing images inside a house at risk of collapse to locate people in need of rescue. Another demonstration involved a drone delivering emergency supplies to residents.

A woman in her 30s who uses drones in her business in Sapporo said she is looking for a drone that can be used to inspect the exteriors of buildings such as apartments. She said she would like to check the camera performance and ease of operation.

A man in his 50s from Sapporo who works for a construction company said he came to see whether drones could be used for supervision of construction sites. He said he hopes drones will become more widely used in Hokkaido.
