On Wednesday, Britain sent a charter flight to the Lebanese capital of Beirut to bring British nationals and their dependents home.

Britain is also putting navy vessels and troops at a British base in Cyprus on standby, in case the airports in Lebanon close.

The US State Department has revealed that about 7,000 people with US citizenship have asked for help to leave Lebanon. It says that over 100 of them left the country on Wednesday on a US government-chartered commercial plane.

The Dutch government says it will send military transport aircraft to Beirut to evacuate Dutch nationals on Friday.

There are more than 20,000 French nationals in Lebanon. France, which once administered Lebanon, sent a helicopter-carrying landing ship to the waters off Lebanon on Monday to evacuate those who want to leave.

On Wednesday, Germany and France also urged their nationals to leave Iran as soon as possible. The advice was issued amid mounting military tensions between Iran and Israel.
