India reaches agreement with China on border patrolling India’s foreign ministry says the country has reached an agreement with China on patrolling arrangements in disputed border areas.

A tentative demarcation line called the “Line of Actual Control” has been established in the border areas between the two countries.

But clashes have occurred intermittently between the two militaries along the line. In 2020, they clashed causing casualties on both sides.

On Monday, India’s Ministry of External Affairs announced that India and China had agreed on patrolling arrangements along the Line of Actual Control. But it has not disclosed the details of the agreement.

India’s External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar said that he hopes the agreement creates places for peace and tranquility in the border areas.

The move came ahead of the BRICS summit scheduled to open in Russia on Tuesday which both Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping are expected to attend.

Media outlets in India say Modi and Xi could hold talks on the sidelines apparently to discuss the ties that soured in the wake of the military clashes in 2020.
