Son of Singapore's first PM says UK has granted him asylum The youngest son of Singapore’s first prime minister Lee Kuan Yew has been locked in a dispute with his elder brother over their father’s estate. Now he says the United Kingdom has granted him asylum.

Lee Hsien Yang currently lives in London. In a Facebook post on Tuesday, he accuses Singaporean authorities of persecuting him and his family. He says the UK has determined that it would be unsafe for him to return to Singapore.

His conflict with former Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong over their late father’s house dates back years. Lee Hsien Yang has maintained that the house should be demolished, citing his father’s wishes. He claims his elder brother is capitalizing on their father’s legacy by preserving it. Lee Hsien Yang has also split with his elder brother by aligning himself with an opposition party.

The Singaporean government says Lee Hsien Yang’s claims that he is persecuted are baseless and he is free to return home.
