Myanmar junta calls explosion at China diplomatic mission 'terrorism' Myanmar’s military announced that an explosion occurred at the Chinese Consulate General in the central city of Mandalay on Friday.

The ruling military junta said on Saturday that the roof of the building was damaged, but no one was injured.

The junta said security forces are investigating the cause of the blast. It denounced the incident as an act of terrorism.

Local independent media quoted authorities as saying that a grenade had been thrown at the compound.

In Myanmar, Democratic forces and ethnic armed groups have been fighting against the junta since the military staged a coup three years ago.

China, which shares the border with Myanmar, has been calling for a ceasefire by mediating peace talks and other means.

However, some people are criticizing China for meddling in Myanmar’s internal affairs in support of anti-junta forces. A group of people close to the military staged a protest in front of the Chinese Embassy in Yangon, Myanmar’s largest city.
