President-elect Prabowo to take office in Indonesia Indonesia’s incoming president Prabowo Subianto will assume office keeping many ministers from the previous administration in place. It is believed he is trying to show his stance of prioritizing policy continuity.

Prabowo won the presidential election in February while serving as Defense Minister. He will take the oath of office at the ceremony in Jakarta on Sunday.

President Joko Widodo said on Tuesday that 15 or 16 ministers from his administration will remain in their posts.

Prabowo represents a minority ruling party. It is expected to form a coalition with a total of 12 political parties, with new cabinet posts likely needed.

Prabowo invited cabinet candidates to his private residence in Jakarta on Monday and Tuesday and asked them to take on the roles.

So far, there are 48 candidates. It is believed that the number of ministries will increase significantly from the current 34.
