Western leaders discuss support for Ukraine Western leaders have been discussing assistance for Ukraine to help in its war against Russia. US President Joe Biden visited Berlin and held talks with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz on Friday.

Biden stressed the importance of the alliance’s help, saying, “As Ukraine faces a tough winter, we must, we must sustain our resolve, our effort and our support.”

Scholz also said he will continue to provide assistance “as strongly as possible.” However, he reacted cautiously to Ukraine’s potential membership in NATO, saying he’s “taking care to ensure” the alliance “does not become a party to the war.”

Meanwhile, NATO defense ministers held their own meeting in Brussels the same day. They also discussed stepping up aid to Kyiv.
NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte said: “We will continue making sure that Ukraine has what it needs to in terms of in military and material goods, etc. All that aid getting into Ukraine to fight off the Russians and this Russian attack.”

He added that NATO allies are working hard to support Ukraine during the winter season.
