Seems reasonable tbh. Might want to look at on street parking at some point too. Not saying it all has to go immediately but try to reduce it at least would be a good start.

Good luck to anyone keeping a bike outside in London!

Should just ban these stupid small dick energy cars/trucks in the first place tbh. 🤷♂️😮💨

Weirdly, I was thinking something had to be done about this yesterday. I was looking for somewhere to park on the side of the road and sat there in a row was a smart car, an old Micra and then some bellend in an imported Dodge Ram taking up as much space as the first two cars put together.

How big is “big” though?
Cars are getting stupidly large but for good reason – safety requirements.

I don’t understand, with our limited street space, why such large cars were allowed in the first place. That’s not rhetorical or criticism, I actually don’t know.

I live in Bristol.
Nothing wrong with this at all – with some SUV’s you can fit in 4, bumper-to-bumper where you could fit in 5 normal sized cars.

Don’t large vehicles already pay more vehicle tax based on emissions? So this will be a double tax almost?
Btw I’m not against tackling large cars but it sounds legally questionable in it’s current form, which explains the future consultation I guess 🤷♂️

Parking spaces should be divided into quarters along the length and then you pay for how much you end up sitting in. Cross 4 lines? Buy four tickets. A motorbike only taking up one section, one ticket.
Most cars would probably take 3/4. Want to park your bus? That’ll be 10 tickets please!

Is a van classed as a large car under this? I’m not clear. My van is registered as an MPV on the logbook but lots of people with work vans would be penalised.
I don’t understand why extra taxation is the answer.

Imo they should start taxing cars based on size and weight in addition to emissions. Small cars should be incentivised, it would solve a lot of problems.

Want a big car, get a house in the suburbs with a driveway. The main reason for many if not most owners is that it’s a status symbol. Some friends of mine were already to get one before the pandemic, they were looking at all the different SUVs, but because of hybrid working it’d be sat on the driveway all the time so they changed their minds and they still have their VW Golf and it does the job of a family car perfectly well.
Also it’s not the only place Cardiff wants to do similar with SUVs and residents parking in certain areas.

An A6 Avant is the same wheel base as a Range.
It’s the ideal family wagon
You can’t take 2 kids out with pushchairs and all the stuff required in an A1. If you think you can, you don’t have kids.
The height of a vehicle, which is really aggs people, is totally irrelevant to space being taken up for parking.
Rather than fap over what’s big and what’s not, just go for number of cylinders. You don’t get V8 hatchbacks, but you do get V8 SUVs, giant Wagons etc, also you’re focusing on the emissions element at the same time.
My RS4… 336g/km CO2.. my Volvo Hybrid 49g/km.. which one is someone going to take out when you’re considering the already extortionate parking costs.. 7x the emissions.. pull a number out of your arse of what multiplier to charge.

we need an SUV tax in general imo, I’m fed up of being a foot lower down than every car next to me at a junction!

I get quite wound up living in a city with a narrow enough street where it’s on street parking for residents. The amount of people that have big SUV’s makes it so hard to squeeze my small car into a spot near my house. (yes I know it’s not my spot if its a public street).
The street gets so narrow as well because of these massive cars. Why on earth would someone who lives a half hour walk from a city centre need a range rover?

Don’t talk about it, do it. And fine people for parking on the pavement.

How are all the middle aged mums driving fucking massive Range Rovers, looking to park in town for their daily retail therapy, going to cope

If your car cannot fit in the lines without going on pavement etc you can’t park there or get a ticket. I live in an area where every other car seems to be huge and mostly not needed, you don’t need a range rover to pick up the kid from school. It’s something that’s really been standing out to me recently. Plus it makes it more dangerous for other road users.

Seems reasonable but I’m not going back to a smaller car. 194cm so I will use my long legs to walk from out of town
