I’m thinking about switching to AXA as health insurance ‘provider’. As they don’t provide basic health insurance, they have a quite unique looking service:
- They handle basic insurance _for you_, including setting up contract, canceling, switching _every year_ to the cheapest if you’d like to, so you should be able to spare a lot in 2 minutes every year.
- Theoretically it’s okay to go with the cheapest basic insurance, since communication is going through AXA, and they also provide a ‘legal protection service’ (description) for disputes with the basic insurance provider.
- To get these services, all you need to do is taking out supplementary health insurance with AXA. Which, by the way, doesn’t look bad. I mean, it probably includes the above services in its price, but after a very quick compare with Helsana or Sympany, it looks okay.
I couldn’t find any reviews/opinions on this, therefore… Dear people of Reddit, what’s the catch? Can you share if you have good or bad experiences with this construction?
ps: if you saw a similar post to this, sorry, made some accidental clicks and opened an AMA session or whatnot ¯\(◉◡◔)/¯
Any experience with AXA's supplementary health insurance?

When I talked to my AXA advisor about car and legal insurance, he told me they make basically no money on those and supplementary health insurance is where the money lies. Not sure if really true or just trying to sweet talk me, but seems plausible to me that they have huge margins on supplementary health insurance.

That doesn’t take more than 30 minutes per year. A lot of the big insurances will cancel your old one when you switch to them. If not, all you have to do is send a letter.
Just ask yourself if you really need supplementary insurance in the first place.
I only have the supplementary with Axa so I can’t really help you with using them as the “main” insurance provider.
I never had any problem with the supplementary though, all bills I sent them through the app were refunded quickly and they cover quite a lot of things.
I also have my car and motorcycle insured with axa and the few claims I had were handled very quickly through the app. You can aso easily join them via phone and email.
