Moscow: US politicizing Nihon Hidankyo's Nobel win against Russia A Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson has insisted that it is unacceptable to see this year’s Nobel Peace Prize as a message about Russia’s continuing nuclear threats. The spokesperson directed criticism at the United States, which carried out the atomic bombings.

The Peace Prize was awarded to Nihon Hidankyo, a Japanese organization representing atomic bomb survivors of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

Maria Zakharova said on Wednesday that the Nobel Committee has been virtually occupied by Western countries, and that they use it for their political purposes.

She said Washington uses the Nobel Committee to spread a “fake ideology” about warning the world against the use of nuclear weapons by Russia.

Zakharova asserted that Russia has always said from the first days of the atomic bombings that they were crimes, but Russia is now portrayed as if it is to blame.
