North Korea has confirmed that its national assembly recently amended the country’s constitution to define South Korea as a “hostile state.”

The North’s state-run Korean Central News Agency(KCNA) said on Thursday that the North’s explosion of parts of rare roads connecting the two Koreas was an “inevitable and legitimate” measure taken in line with the country’s Constitution which clearly defines South Korea as a “hostile state.”

The KCNA added that the explosion was due to the serious security circumstances running to the unpredictable brink of war owing to the grave political and military provocations of the hostile forces.

North Korea’s Supreme People’s Assembly held a plenary session last Monday and Tuesday to amend the Constitution, but detailes of the revision were not disclosed.

Early this year, North Korean leader Kim Jong-un called for constitutional changes to remove any clauses related to peaceful unification and stipulate the country’s territorial boundaries, including the maritime border.
