Police have arrested a 46-year-old man driving a light truck in a hit-and-run incident that killed an 18-year-old high school boy riding a moped on a street in Sennan City, Osaka Prefecture, on the night of 15 October.
The suspect arrested on suspicion of hit-and-run, etc. is Masatomo Ichimichi, 46, a part-time worker living in Sennan City.
Ichimichi is suspected of driving a light truck and colliding with a moped driven by Kota Mizuno (18), a high school student, on a street in Nobutatsu Ichiba, Sennan City, at around 11:40pm on 15 October, but left the scene without providing first aid.
According to the police, a patrol officer spotted a light truck with a wrecked front end.The suspect driving the truck, Ichimichi, said he had hit something, so the officer went to the nearby scene and found Mizuno and the moped lying by the side of the road.
Mr Mizuno was taken to hospital, where he was confirmed dead.
The friend told police that a light truck crossed the centre line and hit the moped, and the driver of the car driving behind reported the same incident, leading to the arrest of the suspect Ichimichi on the afternoon of 16 October.
After his arrest, Ichimichi denied the charge, saying “I don’t remember the situation at all”, and the police are investigating the details.
