  1. Puting aside the controvercy for a sec, Is it really the tallest? It looks smaller than the one in Rio.

I hate this stupid idea so much.

The first major earthquake will topple this figure on people.

  3. The good news is that this will never be fully completed like most Armenian monuments and will serve as a constant reminder that so many corrupt people hide behind the facade of being god fearing and pious.

  4. While i get the sentiment and i have no problem with religious iconography

I dont see a point in erecting a giant statue of Christ because its not representative of Armenians at all beyond the Christian element.

At least it could have been made from tuff stone or been a massive Armenian cross or khachkar monument. Would have been a far more interesting and piece of Artwork that could have been admired secularly and given religious importance.

  5. Given the situation there, the last thing that Armenia should be doing is building a giant Jesus statue. I hope no tax dollars are doing towards this.

  6. I hope this fucking statue helps protect the country from enemy drones and glide bombs.
Fuck, I wanna go to sleep and never wake up, so I don’t see all the stupidity in our country.

All that money could be donated to so many other causes to strengthen Armenia, and this is what they chose. Oligarchs being oligarchs.

People making the “this will boost tourism” argument:

    A) Armenia already has plenty of religious sites for tourists to visit, and people who want to see a big Jesus will go see the OG one in Brazil,

    B) This will boost jack shit without improvements to regional infrastructure,

    C) The money spent on this could have been used on a million other things which would have boosted tourism just as much, if not more.
