Philippines says Chinese ship 'sideswiped' vessel The Philippines says a Chinese militia vessel collided with one of its patrol ships on Friday in the disputed South China Sea.

The Philippine Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources says the Chinese vessel deliberately sideswiped its ship which was in the vicinity of Thitu island in the South China Sea.

It also said that prior to the collision, the Chinese vessel conducted dangerous maneuvers and tried to block the path of their ship.

A Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson said the Philippine ship was navigating in an unsafe manner and hit a Chinese fishing boat.

She added Beijing urges Manila to stop any actions that may complicate the matter.

The incident occurred one day after Philippines President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. called for negotiations on a code of conduct for the South China Sea.

He made the request at a meeting of ASEAN countries in Laos, where China was also taking part.

Beijing claims almost the entire South China Sea, including the Philippine-occupied Thitu Island.
