Does the director want money or something from this? Royalties? If this would be the start of robots in our life, wouldn’t he be happy that his design, that he portrayed over a decade ago, would be used similarly in real life application of them? Should they look like The Jetsons’ robots instead?

I feel like most sci-fi creators/associates love it when reality tries to mold itself to the creativity of their sci-fi. Just look at minority report and Star Trek.

Oh yeah? Did he slam him real hard? How hard? Did he like it?

“Striking similarity”. Yeah, right… It’s not even the same design. What the heck is wrong with people nowadays?

They both also look suspiciously similar to people…

Everyone knows humanoid robots weren’t ever conceived until I,Robot. The director should get all of Musk’s billions for this travesty

I would slam this guy for what he did to Asimov’s work, but ok.

In all fairness this guy clearly cares so much about originality, that he didn’t use a single page of I, Robot in his movie of the same name.

He saw something he liked, and “approriated” it – like the design for the Cybertruck, the Cab and the Bus — all taken right from other designs, or even from 100-year-old design styles (Art Deco). There’s nothing futuristic in these.

It was an interesting choice for Optimus honestly. Most modern robotics companies want to avoid making robots look too human or aggressive. Elon must have decided he wanted “badass”, which is poor design when you’re trying to get people comfortable with humanoid robots. This kind of stuff is what keeps the “Terminator” stigma alive.

Agreed using slammed in a title is shit – fuck u/a_Ninja_b0y for being a fucking shit title picking cockcobbler

Has Elon ever had an original thought?

Oh my God elan doing something not original! I don’t believe it he’s such a gen-nius. It’s so sad to think that Elon is stealing somebody else’s thunder.

That’s kind of rich, considering that Proyas/Tatopoulos lifted much of the design for their robot from Cunnigham’s Björk video “All is Full of Love”.

That’s always been Musks business model though

“Slams” is my least favorite verb to see in a headline. It’s always hyperbolic.

It’s Hasbro who should be suing Tesla over the use of the name “Optimus.”

Can we all agree now we will never buy a robot from Musk?

Slams? He should sue.

Maybe he should rip off car designs since teslas look the same 15 years in now

Sometimes design is defined by it’s utility. For example, if a designed a nail to affix wood, could I then sue someone for ripping off my design? What about a pair of gloves?

Can we make “criticize” cool again. Sick of everyone slamming everything

Luckily the director can’t be slammed back for stealing anything of Asimov’s work since the movie is absolutely nothing like the book. Also, the movie sucks.
Oh, and fuck Elon Musk.

Didn’t the director etc want to make their robots a possibly accurate representation of future robots? Why isn’t the guy happy lol

Not surprising ole Leon Muskrat doing that.

Killer-AI ground robots will never be a humanoid looking. Military tech first and foremost has to be designed with efficiency in mind. And humanoid, up-right standing system is not the most optimal. What you will see for killer robots are going to be either quad drones or robo-dogs. Unless civilian-use is a consideration (Ok, maybe to control the populace, aka robo-cop, you may see humanoid-killer-robots).
Motorcycle (tricycle) style robots with a bit of transformer flair (like the ones on Terminator salvation) could become a thing if there’s a greater need to exploit paved roads. But yeah, scifi writers are going to be disappointed.
