Ex-Taiwan president Tsai condemns China's military drills in a speech in Prague Former Taiwan President Tsai Ing-wen has criticized China for threatening Taiwan with massive military drills.

Tsai spoke at a forum on democracy on Monday in Prague, the capital of the Czech Republic. She is on her first overseas trip since leaving office in May.

Tsai said that the world’s democracies are facing an unprecedented challenge, as authoritarian regimes have gained confidence over their method of governance.

Tsai went on to say that amid the situation, Taiwan stands on the frontline of threats. She said the most recent action is China’s announcement of military drills. Beijing carried out large-scale drills in areas encircling Taiwan on Monday.

Tsai urged democratic nations to increase their cooperation, saying they should send a signal that any threat, or the use of force against them, would result in serious consequences.

Taiwanese media outlets say the former president is expected to tour Europe over an eight-day period.
