  1. Compare and contrast how people jump on either Fine Gael or Fianna Fáil whenever they fuck up, and the relative silence in Irish internet spaces to this Sinn Fein implosion. Very telling

All this sounds like someone wanted him out of contention as a candidate so they did the accusation which would have quietly gone away had he not had enough dignity to fight back. Now they are putting it all on the gardai to “sort it out” when the reality looks to be punishing him for speaking out. It will not be resolved quickly and he will have a perceived stink on him most likely even if its resolved in his favour. Never forget the process IS the punishment.

So a complaint was made against Stanley about something. Grand. The party then open up an internal investigation. They do their inquiring. Then Stanley makes a counter allegation. Stanley leaves the party and is no longer bound by internal policies. Then in the wind up SF say “sure right we’ll hand it over to the guards”. Would they have handed it over to the boys in blue had Stanley said nothing? No probably not.

On the outside it would seem that someone was quite unhappy with Stanley (rightly or wrongly) so he gets an allegation on top of him. The party possibly thought that would be enough maybe. But then he hits back. The party can’t handle it all so they throw it over to the guards because they can then say “sure it’s out of our hands now”. Handy for them.

Maybe no one in SF gave a toss about the allegations against Stanley, maybe they just saw it as some party headbanger kicking up over nothing and maybe only when Stanley made the counter allegation they thought “Oh fuck what’s going on here”. Then in the same spirit of it they gave it to the guards to sort.

I don’t know is it a big conspiracy against Brian Stanley. No one seems to be in a position to say what he was alleged to have done. I’m not a SF supporter, but I like some of their politicians. Stanley gave a very good display in the public accounts.

Whether SF wanted Stanley gone or whether they just can’t handle internal disputes either of those are not very good looks for a party hoping to lead the next government.

The wondrous adventures of Sinn Fein

Edit: Stanley leaves the party and is no longer bound by internal policies.
