South Korea has confirmed its ninth African swine fever (ASF) case of the year.
The government said on Sunday that the latest case was confirmed in Hwacheon in Gangwon Province at a pig farm raising about 35-hundred pigs.
The confirmation of the year’s ninth case comes 44 days after a case was reported on August 30.
The disease control authorities sent an initial response team and epidemiology experts to the Hwacheon farm, taking quarantine measures to prevent the spread of the disease.
The authorities plan to cull all the pigs at the farm.
The government also issued a 48-hour standstill order effective until 8 a.m. Tuesday for pig farms and related facilities in Hwacheon and five neighboring cities and counties.
