The number is low in Sweden because all the banks (except probably ICA-banken) are served by third party ATMs. Also, I don’t remember when I saw cash for the last time. You can’t even pay cash in most places.

In the US, the only place I ever use one anymore is in cannabis shops. Otherwise, it’s plastic and payoff for the perks.

The ATM Industry Association say it’s between 520K and 540K as of 2023. Extrapolating from that, I think it’s safe to say USA is in the highest tier at about 136/100000 if I did the math right (not a given).
In GCC countries (Saudi Arabia, UAE, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain & Oman) most of people using cashless transactions. I can spend weeks without using cash. From grocery, mall, repair shops, hospital, evening buying a car.

Portugal has a lot of ATMs and they are free to use.
They have been closing a lot of ATM machines in the past decade or so simply because the vast majority of people doesn’t use physical cash anymore. Specially since the pandemic

I genuinely don’t think I’ve actually used cash in a store in a decade. I only remember using it for student parties/events and so on, and even that was at least six or seven years ago.

Yes there are plenty of them but I only use them once a month at most.

India uses the UPI cashless system using smartphones for a lot of transactions. Close to $3 trillion in transactions per year are now conducted by the ~750 million smartphone users in the country. You can quite easily get around without cash, not just in big cities.

I rarely use cash in India. Haven’t been to an atm this year.
