On the site it says kontakt.io but after further googling it looks like this is kind of a tracking device or something like this?

BLE Beacon, could be used for navigation or tracking occupancy.
Not clear what the device does, but it’s most certainly a tracking or surveillance device of some sort
Please stop breaking things.

It’s a beacon. Not sure what exactly it’s used for, but it could be anything from being a presence sensor for conductors, to counting the passengers (or individual Bluetooth devices) to being part of the (horrible horrible) SBB carrier agnostic data network where you can sign into with the app while connecting to the Bluetooth beacon. Freenet or whatever it’s called.
Not scarier than the cameras that are everywhere already, if you’re worried about tracking.
Jaja its fell a part ähä
Did you just rip out and break something you found attached to a train?
Why you just take things apart on a train? Dafuq
why didn’t you go find the zugchef to tell them about the device that “fell apart”? it could be used for all sorts of important things that trains rely on, and surely the SBB employees will know more about that than a bunch of redditors.
Its most likely to track how many people are on the train. It may use Bluetooth or WiFi signal’s of travelers phone to count them. You may have seen something like that when you search for “Coop” on Google or something where you get a graph which shows how many people are usually in the store at which time.
My gf works with those everyday (she is part of a mobile team at cff).
It is indeed a beacon, it helps some of the cff application to know on which train and car you are actually seated.
One example is the [sbb inclusive app](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ch.sbb.inclusive) that helps people with handicaps (mainly vision and earing problem) to get the necessary informations of their next connections.
Wtf, did you just rip it like that ?
Yoooo, crazy how all of you judge! Please read description before considering i destroy things?! This plastic thing was coming down and all the batteries where falling around… So thanks for your response without moral policing!
It’s a good habit to always take everything apart you find in public spaces, LOL
