The Vic Market is great for many things. Knife sharpening is not one of them.

Thats a crazy amount to take off a blade omg.

Btw you might want to oil your cutting board, it’s looking a little pale and dry

  2. Did you raise it with him? I’ve been getting him to sharpen my knives for years and have been very happy with the results. Those little Victorinox knives are made of relatively soft steel (55 HRC), which means that there’s more chance you’ll lose some steel on sharpening via a machine wheel. You could hand sharpen it yourself on a whetstone (it wouldn’t be worth the money of paying someone to do that) or you could just buy a replacement of this exact knife for less than $10 online. If you want a readily sharpenable knife, you’ll have to lay out more money in the first place. He at least got it sharp for you and cheap knives don’t have much life in them.

  3. Wrong knives to get sharpened! Just buy replacements, cheaper!! If you want durable, relatively cheap knives, but butcher knives from a wholesaler. Designed to last!!! Won’t need to take as much off the edge when you get them sharpened either! If you care about your blades, invest in a steel and learn to use it properly!

  4. It’s a Victorinox paring knife.. RRP of about AU$9.95, although I think I paid $7.95 for my last one. Being honest, I cycle these from work to home to the bin, over about a year.

If you want to sharpen your Victorinox, get a stone and steel and learn to DIY.

  5. Anyone know where London & American Supply Store used to send their knives off to to sharpened?

  6. That’s a pattern of wear you see with draw sharpeners. These are effective with softer steels, and quick and easy to use, but tend to remove a lot of material.

  7. I’m learning to sharpen my own knives, look at all that metal just bloody gone lol guy must’ve zoned out or something

  8. I’ve got that knife, two even, hone it on a knife steel every know and again and its sweet.

Oh well you can always come out to Alphington Farmers Market and get your knives sharpened by hand…

  10. There’s a weird amount of hobbiest knife sharpeners around, they pop up on all the fb community groups and always get good reviews from others.
