A fan of singer Jessi was assaulted by one of Jessi’s companions after requesting a photo, prompting Jessi to issue a public apology.
On the 12th, Jessi posted an apology on social media, saying, “I sincerely apologize for causing concern to many people due to recent reports related to an assault case involving me.”
Jessi explained, “While having a private gathering with acquaintances, a fan of mine requested a photo, but I politely declined twice as it was late at night. Suddenly, someone nearby, whom I had just met that day, assaulted the fan.”
She continued, “I was also very shocked by the sudden situation and failed to properly consider the fan’s well-being. Regardless of the circumstances, I deeply regret that my fan was harmed and feel a moral responsibility.”
Jessi added, “After the incident, my team and I have been in contact with the victim’s mother to ensure that the assailant is found quickly, apologizes, and compensates the victim. We are also working to ensure that the perpetrator receives appropriate punishment.”
She concluded by saying, “I earnestly ask that reports related to this incident refrain from reflecting only one-sided claims or speculation.”
According to a report from JTBC’s Case Chief program the previous day, the victim, identified as A, is an 18-year-old minor. In the early hours of August 29th, A was on their way to a convenience store in Apgujeong, Seoul, when they encountered Jessi in an alley and asked for a photo. However, A was suddenly assaulted by one of Jessi’s companions.
When A approached Jessi, a man nearby cursed at A in English and walked toward them. Jessi held the man’s arm to stop him, but then another man standing nearby suddenly began punching A.
A recounted, “I’m a fan of Jessi, so I went to ask for a photo. Jessi said, ‘No’ and ‘Sorry,’ so I was about to leave when a man came up and hit me in the face from behind.” A added, “Even though someone was being assaulted, Jessi didn’t react much. I’m not sure if she fled to avoid involvement, but I was really disappointed.”
A’s mother reportedly went to Jessi’s agency on the day of the incident. The agency explained that the assailant was a Chinese acquaintance of a producer close to Jessi. Police stated they have yet to identify the assailant.
When A sent a protest message to the producer, the producer apologized but stated, “Jessi doesn’t know the person who assaulted you, and she is not involved in this incident. You shouldn’t keep contacting Jessi’s side and making threats.”
A expressed, “I’m suffering from severe emotional distress after being assaulted.”
The police have reportedly accepted the case and requested the producer to appear for questioning.
