Han Kang's books selling well in South Korea after Nobel Prize win Books by South Korean author Han Kang are selling remarkably well at bookstores in her country after she was named the winner of this year’s Nobel Prize in Literature on Thursday night.

A bookstore in central Seoul says all of her books sold out immediately after it opened on Friday morning, so it hastily ordered more from publishers.

The books that arrived at the store around noon have attracted a lot of customers. The store estimates the sales of her books will be about 2,000 on Friday alone.

One customer said it was very meaningful that a South Korean author had won the Nobel Prize in Literature for the first time. He said he was surprised to see so many customers at the store.

An employee of the bookstore said some people had been waiting outside the shop in the morning before it opened.

A South Korean media outlet reported that Han’s books sold out briskly at online shopping sites following the Nobel announcement. It also said one site shut down temporarily because too many people tried to access it.
