In this scenario (and without the Iron Curtain), all part will be heavily german and could want a reunification. A reunified « Germany » like that would have provoked a de-facto control of Germany on EU. However I don’t know if France would accept a reunification in this case

  2. I seriously doubt that Churchill opted for the drawn by Stalin in 1951 shape of the eastern Polish border correction. Maybe Churchill was a visionary knowing about coal deposits in Lubelskie, that Poland must definitely share with the Soviet Union, to not be selfish? The Soviet Union exchanged that for a fragment of heavily forested Eastern Carpathians – the “tail” Poland has on SE. We may not consider that as such, but it is a great deal now tbh. so this region is touristy and Lubelskie coal is hard to mine because of the geology, dirty, CO2 intensive fuel 😉

  3. “South Germany”

*Also includes a shit ton of Hungarians*

Unless they planned on deporting or relocating them

  4. It makes sense, in a way that it was a british man trying to draw borders ignoring all cultural and historic ones again

  5. So what would be the capital of South Germany?
If it’s not Vienna then why. If it’s Vienna then why call it Getmany

I have never understood why he thought Hungary, of all countries, had so much in common with southern Germans and Austrians that they should be one country?!

  7. I really like the “West German” part:
Was the plan to use the Rhine as the border? Düsseldorf and cologne extend to both sides of the rhine.
Also, moving Essen to Duisburg is just brilliant!

  8. I know this was long before we knew about the Cold War, resurgent Russia, Putin, etc., but that piece of Konigsberg/Kalliningrad always makes my eye twitch. Should have just given the whole thing to Poland.

  9. The British in 1939: We can’t let the Germans have more territory or another world war!

1945: Hungary? That’s part of South Germany to me
