My friend went to Australia about 20 years ago and brought me back a bunch of these things he got free in crisps. I can’t figure out what the black bar does (2nd pic). Does anyone know?

  1. It might be heat-sensitive. I think if you apply heat (friction), it will reveal what Bart wrote on the chalkboard.

success! I had to hold it above an oven hob but it worked and revealled the blackboard message “my homework was not stolen by a one armed man”. Thanks all

Man I remember having these. We tried so hard to heat it up with friction. I think we put them in the fridge for some reason eventually

We used to hold them against a mug of hot tea/coffee… needs a fair bit of heat to reveal.

    DAMN I REMEMBER THESE!!!!!
    They were SO COOL.
I miss when you got stuff like this from chips.
It was so awesome till it all got replaced by AFL players then died out.
Thank you for the picture though!
That’s such a cool item to have, and feels so unique too

  6. My time to shine, as an Aussie who collected these as a kid. You need to rub the black strip with a finger or thumb and the heat generated by the friction will then show the message

Holy shit this just unlocked a childhood memory. I haven’t seen these in soo long, forgot they even existed!! So so cool!

  8. Got some of these my self, that one you need to rub with your finger but it takes more than it should and they tend to break easily if your not careful
