There is only one state in which all counties have at least 5% black population: South Carolina

Now we’re getting somewhere. This is better than the 1% map.

Which ones in Maryland don’t? *checks map*. Oh; Garrett and Carroll. Sure, that tracks.

I like how there is absolutely no reason to rotate Hawaii and yet they did it.

Surprised about the places in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. I don’t recall seeing almost any black people there the few times I visited. There aren’t many people there in general.

Thought they would be more up North after the great migration.

What areas to avoid. Very helpful map.

Cool. Milwaukee moved its city boundaries into Ozaukee county. Ironically north Milwaukee has the highest black population but according to this map they don’t exist. As far as counties go I believe it that Ozaukee County doesn’t have at least 5% black.
This is undoubtedly counting prison population. There is no way Lassen County in far north California has 5% black people or more. They do have a lot of prisons tho, fed and state.

it’s because i’m ignorant, but it is quite surprising to me that there are still counties in the south with less than 5% African american population. I mean, I wouldn’t exactly be rushing to go live next to some whites in rural appalachia either, but it is remarkable how long these differences have persisted. I guess not surprising though as unless you’re an impoverished scottish farmer in 1818 and free marginal land is what you need, not much of a draw.

I’m guessing that a black person would not want to stop in that strip of white in northern Alabama/Georgia
