I think this chart (which excludes fiber & flexible plastics) reflects the states which have deposits on bottles and therefore a much higher return/recycling rate.

Lived in Texas for 6 months and they just throw everything into one trash bag it’s truly satanic.

It is absolutely crazy that giving people a monetary incentive to recycle is more likely to cause people to recycle more.
Good on New Jersey, Connecticut, Minnesota, and Maryland, et al for going the furthest without any incentive (that I know of). What inspires those states to be so responsible?
