CBS: More young people without a starting qualification

In the second quarter of 2024, 20% of young people aged 15 to 27 without education had no starting qualifications, an increase compared to 17% in 2021.
The number of young people without a starting qualification increased by 50,000 since 2021, to 176,000, while the number of young people with a starting qualification increased by 72,000 to 697,000.
90% of young people with a starting qualification had a job, while 69% of those without a starting qualification had a job.
There were 54,000 young people without a starting qualification who were not in education and did not work; 15,000 were unemployed and 39,000 were in the non-labour force.
Young people with a starting qualification more often had a permanent contract (46%) than those without (31%).
Young people without a starting qualification were more likely to be self-employed (12%) than those with a starting qualification (8%).
