PSA: It’s forest cockroach time

A little information for everyone who hasn’t experienced this phenomenon yet:

There is a harmless relative of the cockroach that is native to us: the wood cockroach.

The forest cockroach lives (as the name suggests) in the forest – or at least outdoors. In the fall she likes to get lost inside due to the warmth in our apartment/houses. Then there are always people who desperately call the pest controller. In addition to being expensive, this is also pointless unless the purpose was to destroy this single cockroach using all the unholy means that chemistry has given us.

So before you spend a lot of money calling a pest controller, you should first determine whether it is a forest cockroach or a cockroach. There are two methods for this:

1. The forest cockroach’s pronotum is brown, the cockroach has two black stripes. This can be easily determined using a microscope or a cell phone camera (zoom).

2. If the cockroach was relatively easy to catch, it was most likely a forest cockroach. Cockroaches that are startled behave like Hammy the squirrel "Off through the hedge" i.e. without absolute chaos, someone crying and a broken window, it won’t work.

Bonus method 3: shine a flashlight on the cockroach. The behavior of the wood cockroach hardly changes while the cockroach behaves like Hammy on caffeine.

Simply resettle forest cockroaches. In the case of a cockroach, I recommend napalm.
