  1. The buck stops .. somewhere over there —–>

    > “I didn’t approve money for it because that’s not the role of the Minister of State for the Office of Public Works. The accounting officer within the Office of Public Works is the chairman, and then, as we’ve seen in the Public Accounts Committee hearings, depending on a person’s position in that organisation, they have different level of sign off with regards to their financial responsibilities, something I think the chairman is now, with the management board of the Office of Public Works, reviewing.”

Giving the civil servants a kicking despite being department head, and subsequently taking credit for all the OPW projects that went well. Easily one of the worst slimeballs in the Dail.

  2. No problem drawing down the Minister of State salary

No problem turning up to cut the [OPW ribbons](https://x.com/podonovan/status/1770798240172056587) or announce [OPW works in his constituency](https://x.com/podonovan/status/1768258033447018903).

But accountability? Nah, that’s other people.

    > Paschal Donohoe said he was “embarrassed” by the cost of the bicycle shed and that he [“accepts responsibility” as minister with responsibility for public spending. ](https://www.thejournal.ie/donohoe-embarrassed-by-bike-shed-cost-and-accepts-responsibility-6504182-Oct2024/)

This is what O’Donovan should have said

  3. O’Donovan is a smarmy little twerp. A useless Minister of Public Transport, he’s just doing the rounds while achieving little to nothing of note.

  4. Smoke them out with reverse psychology, #everybodylovesthebikeshed #bestbikeshedever #paradeforwhoeverisresponsibeforthebikeshed #bikeshedhasmyvote

  5. If you get cold fries in McDonalds do you hold Chris Kempczinski, the McDonalds CEO, responsible?

  6. I’m sure we’ll have a PAC hearing where some low hanging fruit in the OPW will attend and the tds will get the chance to grandstand and get their names in the media while ultimately accomplishing nothing. Rinse and repeat

  7. This scandal has really done no more than expose how ignorant the wider country is about how works are completed in this country. Anyone who believes that a Minister personally greenlighted a minor works contract like this, really doesn’t understand what the Minister actually does.

I am going to brace the downvotes and agree with him. The minister isn’t going to be signing off on projects like the bike shed. At the very least we need the mid level managers who signed off getting involved in these tribunals.

  9. Does this money launderer also have ties to Israel?

When will he be tried in the SCC?

  10. Outrageous_Frame_751 on

His title was Minister of State with RESPONSIBILITY for Office of Public Works.

  11. Have they found the person who signed off on it yet? How the fuck is it taking so long?

  12. He’ll be re-elected. So will a lot of his colleagues. Accountability for politicians lies in the hands of the public and we’re very tolerant
