Closest I know are Concord NH and Concord MA (~60 Miles).

Let's not include directly adjacent (ie "zero" distance) ones like Kansas City KC and Kansas City MO since they effectively are the same urban area. I'm thinking of towns that are distinctly separate.

Springfield VT and Springfield NH are closer – 37 miles by road, shorter as the crow flies…

Beaufort (pronounced “BO-furt”) NC and Beaufort (pronounced “BYEW-furt”) SC are 368 miles away from each other. Both are on the coast.

  3. There are 4 Franklin Townships in NJ, two of which are 15mi from each other.

There are also 6 Washington Townships in NJ, two of which are 12mi from each other.

  4. I’d start by looking at most common city names and see how close you can find them in connecting states. New England states are a good place to look because of similar old names and small states

I’d say Bristol VA/TN but that’s the same as KCMO, it’s all really just one city in the border.

Not its own city but Richmond is a San Francisco neighborhood and a different Richmond is an East Bay town just north of Berkeley.

  7. There are two Englewood, COs about 10 miles apart. One isn’t technically a city, but a large grouping of Englewood addresses that are an old remnant chunk of the original, much older area. The distance between has been filled in with newer cities creating the weird gap.

  8. I’ll throw Newark and New York in there because as a kid it confused the hell out of me when we flew to Newark to visit New York.

Also, Pittsburgh, PA and Fitchburg, Mass. My grandfather grew up in Fitchburg and always got mad when I called it Pittsburgh. I was like 7 and who the hell has ever heard of Fitchburg lol

  9. Manchester NH and Manchester MA were so close together that Manchester MA changed its names to Manchester-by-the-Sea in the 1990s.

  10. There are two Cranberry Townships in PA about 60 or 70 miles from each other. 1 in Venango county and 1 in Butler county

  12. I am from the area and was talking to someone recently and they were mixed up on which Concord I was talking about

  13. Vancouver, WA-Vancouver BC
Escambia County FL-Eacambia County, AL (They border each other. FL panhandle)

Those aren’t even the closest same-named towns in MA/NH. Check out Salem to Salem

  15. Union NJ to Union City NJ are 15 miles apart, but like 1 hr of traffic apart.

I spent 30 mins driving the 10 miles from my house to Union, only to realize I actually needed to go Union City which was 5 miles from my house the other direction and the whole thing took like 2.5 hrs.

  16. There is a town named Halifax, in Halifax County VA. 100 miles away is a town named Halifax, in Halifax County NC.

Kansas City Kansas, Kansas City Missouri, Texarkana Arkansas, Texarkana Texas.

  18. Not at all close, but if you drive Interstate 10 East from New Mexico, there’s a Vinton as the first exit when you enter Texas. Keep driving 900 miles across Texas and you’ll see a Vinton as the first exit off I-10 in Louisiana. Too coincidental to not be
